Facebook and Instagram are two of the biggest social media platforms there is.

Instagram which is the smaller of the two platforms, had around 1 billion users in 2020. They also have some quite significant differences from each other, making them an excellent complement to each other for many people, including marketers. 

In 2012, Facebook bought Instagram for a whopping $1bn (they have also bought other popular platforms like WhatsApp in 2014 for a much larger sum of $19bn). 

Since Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram it would make sense that Mr. Zuckerberg and friends at Facebook HQ would want to make it easier for people to use the platforms in conjunction with each other, and they have done exactly that.

For example, they made it possible for users to link Instagram with Facebook directly, making things a lot easier for many people.

Managing social media accounts can be quite a headache for people, especially business owners and influencers, who post a ton of content.

This is especially the case when it comes to posting on multiple platforms because it means a lot of the same work has to be done twice on two different platforms.

Many people prefer to keep their images and other content stored on a computer rather than on the phone. It is easier this way because you have a full-sized keyboard and a large screen.

Plus, you may use other software that will help you edit and organize your content. 

On the phone, however, everything is a lot smaller, making it harder to work with content. There’s also the matter of security – you are a lot less likely to lose a computer than you are to lose your phone.

Linking your accounts makes it a lot easier for you to reach your audience on more than one channel, increasing your visibility.

There is also another benefit in that regard because, with linked accounts, people on one platform are aware that you also have a platform on another. 

You would usually have to let your followers know you have an account elsewhere and ask them to follow you. When you link your accounts you get to avoid this. 

It can be awkward to ask people to go follow you on a social media platform, and it can also be easy for your requests to be lost in other content.

However, with linked accounts, your audience is informed of your other accounts in a much more natural-looking way.

How To Link Instagram To Facebook

Linking Instagram and Facebook accounts is free and easy to do.

The only requirement is that you have admin or editor access to an Instagram account and a Facebook page.

Note that that’s a Facebook business page and not a just standard personal account that most people use for social network purposes. 

All you need to do to link the two accounts is to follow the brief guide below.

1. Go to the page you want to be linked with your Instagram profile.

2. In the bottom left-hand corner, tap settings.

3. Find the Instagram option in the left-hand column and click on it.

4. Click on ‘connect account’.

5. Log in using your username and password.

If you have a business account on Instagram, then you can share your business contact info in your Instagram business profile with your Facebook account.

Follow the steps below to do this.

1. Select the Facebook page you wish to link with a business Instagram account.

2. In the bottom left-hand corner, tap settings (A cog icon)

3. Find ‘Instagram’ in the left-hand column and click on it

4. Click on ‘connect account’.

5. Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to complete the process.

How To Disconnect Your Facebook Page And Instagram Account

If, for whatever reason, you wish to disconnect the two accounts, the process is just as easy as connecting them in the first place.

Follow the steps below to do this.

  1. Go to the Facebook page you wish to disconnect from Instagram.

  2. In the bottom left hand corner, tap settings.

  3. Find ‘Instagram’ in the left hand column and click on it.

  4. Scroll down to where it says ‘disconnect’, and then click on it.

What Happens When You Connect Your Facebook Page And Instagram Account? 

The main benefit of linking a Facebook account with an Instagram account is that you get to share content over both platforms simultaneously, but that is not all that happens.

Doing so also makes it a lot easier for people to manage both platforms in other ways.

Especially when you are running Facebook and Instagram advertising.

For example, editors and moderators of a Facebook page can respond to Instagram direct messages from their Facebook accounts.

They are also able to respond directly to comments that are made on Instagram posts. 

When accounts are linked, somebody using an Instagram account can also share posts to your Facebook page.

It also becomes a lot easier to manage information between the platforms. This includes information like phone numbers, email addresses, and business addresses.
